The coal mine “Zeche Zollverein” with its industrial monuments, once called the "Forbidden Town", was declared an UNESCO world heritage site and its existence was one of the most important criteria when Essen was declared Cultural Capital of Europe 2010. The area around the former coal mine is a symbiosis of culture and nature and only 4.5 km away from the hotel. About 15 km from the hotel you will find the trade fair grounds of Essen and the trade fair grounds of Düsseldorf are within 40 km distance.
